"…this is a wonderful book to help guide your story as a person, a leader, a critical member of an interdependent system and to reconnect yourself with the reasons why you became an educator in the first place." (TC Record, December 2006)In this important new book, Stephanie Pace Marshall argues that by focusing on reforming the contents of schooling and not transforming the context and conditions of learning, we have created false proxies for learning and eroded the potentially vibrant intellectual life of our schools. To educate our children wisely requires that we create generative learning communities, by design. Credentialing has come to mean competence. Finishing a course and a textbook has come to mean achievement. Listening to a lecture has come to mean understanding. Getting a high score on a standardized test has come to mean proficiency. Such learning communities have their roots in meaning, not memory; engagement, not transmission; inquiry, not compliance; exploration, not acquisition; personalization, not uniformity; interdependence, not individualism; collaboration, not competition; and trust, not fear. The examples Bill gives in this book might stun some marketers that have always done things the normal way. From Volcanoes to Earthquakes, to Hurricanes, Tornadoes, Extreme Weather and Tsunamis, this book provides a holistic look of the geologic and dynamic processes behind these natural phenomenon's. I think though that the basic user will find a wide range of topics that Missing Manual Lion covers will be invaluable.A lot of the book is a rehash of the Snow Leopard book and that's ok, A lot of the value in Missing Manual Lion is in the new features. The authors manage to cram this all into 28 pages. More accurate measures of economic growth, such as the Index of Sustainable Economic Welfare or Genuine Progress Indicator, tend to show that there has been far less genuine economic growth than the official statistics suggest. It's worked for Bill and countless others. It is a series of short essays, interviews with industry movers and shakers, and articles by different authors. The central theme is the business value of technology and how business can harness technology to achieve strategic and tactical goals. Average people do not think like lawyers.I know from my experience in public speaking, and more importantly from my experience listening to speak
