The scholarship represented here is in my view excellentthe engagement with the literatures is good, and the research is extremely interesting and well constructed. Important, original, and enjoyable. (Alan Mabin, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg)At Home with Apartheid is at once modest in spirit and profound in effect. Rebecca Ginsburg’s meticulous scholarship and her ability to allow her informants to speak for themselves create an unforgettable portrait of apartheid from the inside, one that vividly demonstrates the role of mundane domestic spaces in shaping the moral and social experiences of the South African racial order. The issues raised here are enormously important to many South African women. This is a major landmark in the growing field of race and space studies. (Dell Upton, University of Californ

Rebecca Ginsburg is Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

In addition to these oral accounts, Ginsburg draws from plans, drawings, and onsite analysis of the physical properties themselves. These seemingly mundane, private conflicts were part of larger contemporary struggles between whites and blacks over territory and power. 1960–1975) and incorporates recent scholarship on gender, the home, and family. Ginsburg gives special attention to the distinct social and racial geographies produced by the workers’ detached living quarters, designed by builders and architects as landscape complements to the main houses. He recounts a childhood in Greenwich Village of both privilege and horror, and a gradual coming to faith despite a rigid immersion in parochial school, and a gripping drug addiction in adolescence, that continued to plague him in adulthood. My mainstream evangelical self squirmed at his assertion that he actually heard the voice of Christ pleading for `forgiveness', but then, given Cron's unconventional way of expressing his faith, it fits.I read this latest work of Cron's just the way I ingested the last one, "Chasing Francis". But there's something about her that I found charming about her. Mainly because a good portion of this book is transcripts of interviews Jim did with various media people, reprinted in their entirety. Dissapointed , many missing pages. Lecciones cortas y enseñanzas prácticas con fundamento bíblico y cristocéntricas. Highly recommended.. It is simply an endlessly entertaining trove of interesting trivia about the source of our idioms.. Second, it's cheesy. Its educational and hilarious at the same time. Another information packed book from one of my favorite
