From the language itself, many young children might find it impossible to glean the redemption and glory of this story without some extensive interpretation. While this kind of interactive reading is probably a good thing for children, it requires an astute and sensitive adult reader. As he did with The Christmas Story, Gennady Spirin provides a lavish artistic accompaniment to excerpts from the King James Bible. Adding to the drama and symbolism of the story, Spirin drapes Jesus in a flowing, ivory robe that enhances the radiance of Christ himself, who seems to glow from the core of his being. I don't know if I liked it enough to struggle through book two of the trilogy. Reading the rest of the book is more annoying than amusing.. The Transformation of Man tells you exactly how to do just that. Maybe it's because I just returned from Cuba, but I found this very clever take on what could happen in Cuba and all it's quite accurate historical and present day references to be fascinating. It's biography at it's best.. They also leave behind a copy of their body, which will continue to look and mostly act like them, but which will no longer contain their soul (sometimes the soul splits across timelines and rejoins in later incarnations). Without this, I would've been in lab the entire 3 hrs but I only stayed in lab for 1 hr or so. The good guy/bad guy style is always present and the characters are consistent from novel to novel. THIS should be required in every sixth grade class and every home in the 1st world!
